What are AED's?
What are AED's and SCA?
Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

An AED is a device designed to analyze the heart rhythm and deliver an electric
shock to victims, if needed.

Most AED's can be used by anyone, without prior training.

The AED guides its user through its audible and/or visual prompt.

An AED will not deliver a shock unless it is necessary.

State and Federal Good Samaritan Laws protect individuals who use AED's in
good faith from liability risks.  For information on Florida’s Good Samaritan
Law see Florida Statute 768.13. Click here: Statutes & Constitution :View

Public Access Defibrillation (PAD) Program

The presence of automated external defibrillator's (AED's) in public places is
saving countless lives around the country.  PAD programs are based on the
premise that the first person on the scene of a cardiac arrest is in the best
position of saving a life, if the rescuer is equipped with an AED.

AED stands for "Automated External Defibrillator." An AED is used to
administer an electric shock to a person who is having a cardiac arrest.
AED's are designed to allow non-medical personnel to save lives.
When a person has a sudden cardiac arrest ("SCA"), their heart's
regular rhythm becomes chaotic or arrhythmic. Every minute that the
heart is not beating lowers the odds of survival by 7% to 10%. After
10 minutes without defibrillation very few people survive. It is
estimated that over 450,000 people suffer from SCA and that only
3-5% survive because an AED can't be located and used within the
3-5 minute window of opportunity for the first shock to be
administered. The average cost is $2000.00 for purchase, placement
and training.
The love John Wesley had for sports and the active lifestyle that he
lived was a trigger not a cause for SCA. That is why we feel that all
sports complexes and public gathering locations should be equipped
with AED's. Frank Brown Park was a special place for John Wesley and
many others, that is why we feel this should be the first place to start
with the placement of AED's. Please remember John Wesley and make
an effort to see that no other family has to live with the loss of a loved
one in this way by helping to sponsor an AED in his honor.
